What happens to food waste when it’s destroyed?
Our goal is to send nothing to landfill or incineration.
All the food waste we receive is converted to clean energy and organic fertiliser via our anaerobic digestion plant. While the plastic, cardboard, metal or glass packaging is shredded, crushed or ground down as appropriate, rendering it completely unrecognisable, before it is recycled.
Swancote is the only food waste destruction company in the UK equipped with a TOMRA optical sorter. Which means we are the only company able to sort and separate different types of plastic food packaging, so that the material can be recycled.
